Meanwhile, researchers are making headway as U.S. regulators consider cracking down. Step into the forest around a rural Malaysian village, pluck the  red ,  green  or  white-veined  leaves off a kratom tree, and start chewing. At a small dose, the leaves will act as a stimulant helpful for getting through long hours of hard labor. At a much higher dose, they may cause nausea, vomiting and indigestion, followed by euphoria. Boosting Kratom Exports - KSP lauds cooperation with American Kratom Association There needs to be joint research between the US and Indonesian educational institutions Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) has lauded ongoing cooperation for the development of herbal plant kratom (Mitragyna speciosa), which is known for its pain-relieving properties, as an export commodity. The cooperation for kratom’s export development was initiated by the American-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, the American Kratom Association (AKA), and the Anugerah Bumi Hijau Producers Cooperative (KOPRABUH). "Kratom can lift economic growth. The past six months we've seen an increase in the variety and volume of attacks on kratom consumers from all over America. The worst part has been an increase in rhetoric and attempts to criminalize kratom possession and consumption! Why do they keep attacking kratom consumers? America doesn't need more people arrested for consuming natural products, especially something millions safely use daily, and even the WHO ECDD said doesn't merit a critical review. Several commenters weigh in during meeting The introduction of an ordinance to regulate the sale and use of kratom drew several commenters, both for and against, to the Ascension Parish Council meeting held Aug. 4 at the courthouse in Donaldsonville. According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, kratom can be taken as a pill, crushed and smoked, brewed as a tea, or chewed. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website warns consumers not to use kratom, which grows naturally in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. "FDA is concerned that kratom, which affects the same opioid brain receptors as morphine, appears to have properties that expose users to the risks of addiction, abuse, and dependence," the site stated.
