What Is Red Vietnam Kratom? Effects, Dosage, Safety

Image
What Is Red Vietnam Kratom? Effects, Dosage, Safety Red Vietnam kratom , unsurprisingly, comes from Vietnam, where the dense and humid forests are ideal for kratom growth. As is the case with most  red vein kratom strains , Red Vietnam is used for pain relief and sedation and is best taken at night. In this guide, you’ll learn about what makes this strain unique, the effects you can expect from Red Vietnam, and some possible side effects. Also included is a dosing guide to help you dose Red Vietnam appropriately, depending on your desired results. What Is Red Vietnam Kratom? Kratom  consists of ground-up leaves from the  Mitragyna speciosa  tree, which is indigenous to Southeast Asia. The leaves have been used for thousands of years by  traditional medicine  practitioners to treat many ailments and diseases. The leaf color usually determines the effects of a particular kratom strain. There are three primary kratom colors: red, green, and white. As th...

Therapeutic potential and liability of the Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) alkaloids

Image
Abuse liability and therapeutic potential of the Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) alkaloids mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine Abstract Kratom, derived from the plant Mitragyna speciosa, is receiving increased attention as an alternative to traditional opi- ates and as a replacement therapy for opiate dependence.  Mitragynine (MG) and 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-HMG)  are major psychoactive constituents of kratom. While MG and 7-HMG share behavioral and analgesic properties with mor- phine, their reinforcing effects have not been examined to date. 7-HMG, but not MG, substituted for morphine self- administration in a dose-dependent manner in the rat self-administration paradigm. Following the substitution proce- dure, re-assessment of morphine self-administration revealed a significant increase following 7-HMG and a significant decrease following MG substitution. In a separate cohort, 7-HMG, but not MG, engendered and maintained intrave- nous self-administration in a dose-depen...

Respiratory effects of oral mitragynine and oxycodone

Image
Kratom derives from Mitragyna speciosa (Korth.), a tropical tree in the genus Mitragyna (Rubiaceae) that also includes the coffee tree. Kratom leaf powders, tea-like decoctions, and  commercial extracts  are taken orally, primarily for health and well-being by millions of people globally. Others take kratom to eliminate opioid use for analgesia and manage  opioid withdrawal  and use disorder. There is debate over the possible respiratory depressant overdose risk of the primary active alkaloid, mitragynine, a partial μ-opioid receptor agonist, that does not signal through ß-arrestin, the primary opioid respiratory depressant pathway. Objectives Compare the respiratory effects of oral mitragynine to oral oxycodone in rats with the study design previously published by US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientists for evaluating the respiratory effects of opioids (Xu et al., Toxicol Rep 7:188–197, 2020). Methods Blood gases, observable signs, and mitragynine ph...

Does Kratom Case Weight Gain? - Kratom Effects

Image
Kratom  has become a very popular herb among individuals seeking natural alternatives to painkillers and anxiolytics. The plant is used for many reasons, including pain relief, anxiety relief, to increase energy and, especially, to get off synthetic opioids or ease their  withdrawal symptoms . But, like any other herb, kratom doesn’t come without side effects. People who use kratom regularly have reported some unpleasant effects, such as nausea, stomach upset and constipation. Typically, these side effects are not serious and will disappear after a few days since you stop using kratom. On the other hand, some people have experienced other effects, including  weight loss . However,  there are also users who report that kratom may be making them gain weight . But, is this possible? Does kratom cause weight gain? We’ll explore this subject in this article. Why Do We Gain Weight? Every person is different, and  there are many factors that can cause weig...

What Is 7-hydroxymitragynine & Why Does It Matter?

Image
Kratom’s two primary alkaloids — 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine — are responsible for producing most of its many pharmacological effects. Alkaloids are organic compounds containing nitrogen, an extremely broad category that includes chemicals like ephedrine, caffeine, and morphine; 7-hydroxymitragynine is unique because it’s a derivative of mitragynine. Alkaloid concentrations can vary between kratom strains, but, on average, 7-hydroxymitragynine makes up only 2% of kratom’s alkaloid budget. For comparison, mitragynine comprises up to 66% of alkaloids in some Thai kratom strains. However, the concentrations alone don’t tell the whole picture, and even minimal 7-hydroxymitragynine concentrations play an important role in influencing kratom’s pharmacological effects. Where Does 7-hydroxymitragynine Come From? Kratom plants produce mitragynine as part of their natural life cycle. As the plants mature, mitragynine is converted to 7-hydroxymitragynine through oxidation, th...
